🍯 What It Is

Monofloral Manuka honey — honey made by bees that primarily collect nectar from the Leptospermum scoparium (Manuka) shrub native to New Zealand.
Certified UMF® 15+ — this rating comes from the Unique Manuka Factor Honey Association (UMFHA) and indicates high levels of bioactive compounds unique to Manuka honey. The number “15+” places it in a high‑potency category.
The honey is dark and rich, which is typical for higher‑rated UMF grades and often reflects a deeper flavour and higher concentration of beneficial compounds.

Typical product examples: New Zealand Honey Co Manuka Honey UMF 15+, New Zealand Honey Raw Manuka Certified UMF 15+, Manuka Honey New Zealand 100% Pure UMF 15+, and others in the UMF 15+ category.

🧪 What “UMF 15+” Means

UMF (Unique Manuka Factor): A quality mark certifying genuine Manuka honey based on three signature compounds — Methylglyoxal (MGO), Leptosperin, and Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) — that distinguish Manuka from ordinary honey.
15+ rating: Indicates a high level of activity (often around 500 + mg/kg MGO or more), meaning the honey has stronger antibacterial potential and more pronounced bioactive properties compared with lower UMF grades.
Higher UMF numbers generally reflect greater potency and are often chosen for targeted wellness uses rather than everyday sweetening.

🌿 Benefits & Uses

✅ Antibacterial & Antimicrobial Support

Manuka honey’s high MGO content contributes to strong natural antibacterial activity, far greater than ordinary honey. This is part of why people use UMF 15+ products for wellness and topical applications.

🤧 Immune & Digestive Support

Traditionally used to help support immune function, soothe the throat, or ease digestive discomfort, especially when taken by the spoonful or mixed into warm drinks (as long as heat isn’t too high).

🩹 Skin & Wound Care

Topically, Manuka has been used to help protect and nourish skin, support minor wound healing, and soothe irritation, thanks to its antibacterial and anti‑inflammatory qualities.

🍯 Natural Sweetener with Added Benefits

Some people use high‑grade UMF Manuka honey as a daily wellness boost in tea, on toast, or with yogurt — enjoying traditional honey’s sweetness plus Manuka’s characteristic properties.

📌 How to Use

Oral use: Take a teaspoon plain, add to warm (not boiling) drinks, or drizzle on food.
Topical use: Apply a thin layer to clean skin and cover with a dressing if needed (avoid over‑dosage and consult guidance if using medically).
Not suitable for infants under 12 months due to the risk of infant botulism.
